I have a question for my readers. I have images that I edit, some in color and some in black and white. Both look great but you can’t have both, you have to choose one or the other. Which would you choose? How would you choose?

Let’s say you have a contest to enter and you have one picture to enter, but you don’t know what to enter, color or B/W ,both are great looking but you are allowed only one image per entrant. How do you decide?

Below are several images I have edited, one each in color and one in black and white.

In your example, I would choose black and white. Why? Because of the overall style and genre of the subject matter. Plus, if you’re going to do color, you need to have good color formulation for it to really stand out (another element for you to tend to). But, hey, I’m just a former creative director and artist (well, I’ll always be an artist). What do I know?

I like the way on which the shadows are presented in the black and white image. Perhaps desaturating the image to show a hint of color would create an interesting photograph.
